What to Expect at Your Child's Appointment
Referrals to the BSD audiologist are completed by the neighborhood school or school of attendance. A staff member will send home a consent for you to sign and return; these are often sent by school counselors or speech-language pathologists. After you sign and return the consent, you may use online scheduling or wait for a phone call to set up an appointment. CLICK HERE to Schedule Online.
Testing is completed at Amity Elementary (10000 W Amity Rd, Boise ID 83709). Testing may be completed if your child did not pass the school hearing screenings or if the educational team feels that testing your child's auditory function is necessary to better support learning. You are asked to arrive at your appointment on time and/or call in advance if you need to reschedule. Please check in at the front office when you arrive. You must stay with your child at the appointment; please plan for 45 minutes for a hearing test and 2 hours for an auditory processing evaluation. Your participation is critical. You and your child will be asked questions about your child's hearing, history of ear infections, developmental history, and family history. If you are unable to stay for the duration of the appointment, we are happy to reschedule to a time when you are able to participate. It is also important that your child be able to participate without distractions...please do not bring siblings to the appointment.
Your child will participate in a variety of behavioral and objective measures to determine auditory function. Results will be shared with you at the end of the appointment and you will receive a copy of the written report. The school will also receive a copy of the report to ensure understanding of your child's auditory abilities.
